I had a moment recently.

I was sitting in my classroom feeling really sorry for myself.  My kids had had a ripper of a day.
Chairs had been thrown...
toys had been tossed...
tears had been shed...
And that was just from me!

This year has not been the greatest.  I have had a class that just knows how to push my buttons, and they push them for sure.

But I have to remind myself that they are children!  I'm the adult, and really I need just get over myself...

And start again.

This is me.  Giving you permission to have a bad day.  And to get up and keep moving.

It's August... It's also term 3 here in New Zealand.  I've had this class of kids for 7 months, and I STILL haven't got them trained.

It's like working with monkeys.  Except that monkeys are cute!

I got moved down to year 1 and 2 this year.  (K/1 for you 'Mericans).  So you know how crazy that is, I have taught middle school for most of my career... 5 year olds are HARD!

The cute factor wears thin veeeeeery quickly....

So I've not been active here for about a million years.  Well since January.  And while there are a ton of reasons why, really they are just excuses.

1.  5 year olds are hard!
2. My flatmate is an annoying weirdo... Totally not a reason not to blog, but I did warn you this post was about excuses!
3. There was this one time that I totally got abducted and aliens probed my brain.

Ok so that last one was totally fake, and my excuses aren't really panning out to much, but hey!

I'm back... for now!

Let's see how long this lasts!

Hey friends!  Head over to Focussed on Fifth to hear my thoughts on having a student teacher in your room!  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

When I was typing in that title, I wrote 2015.  I don't know if it was that subconscious "I don't know what the date is" thing we all get at the start of any new year, or the fact that 6 is further along the keyboard than 5 is.  You are technically supposed to use your right hand to type 6, but I never type using the correct fingers all the time!

I'm linking up with some of my favourites for the first time!  I can't believe it.  Every month I intent to link up, but it hasn't happened until now!

Say it ain't so?! 2016 ALREADY?!

Oh my word it's come so quickly.  It feels like just yesterday that it was the START of 2015.

I'm Linking up today with the ever wonderful Farley.  DID you notice something when you got there though?! I'm this months sponsor! Yay!  I'm going to have a MASSIVE giveaway going on on my blog for the next week.  Keep reading to see how you could win part of $100 to spend at TPT in some way or another.

I'm a big fan of using parody in the classroom.  I always have been!  Stick around for today's link up with my girls over at Focused on Fifth to see how I use it at Christmas time!

About a year ago I legitimately used the song Amish Paradise to teach my students something.  I can't for the life of me remember what that something was - but that is beside the point!  The great thing about that song (and all the rest of the songs Weird Al Yankovich sings) is that they are a perfect example of parody.  Totally inappropriate to use with children!! But parody none the less.

Hi Friends!

We're talking all things holiday writing today!  I have to admit, I find it a reaaaallll struggle to write with my students at this time of the year.  Here in New Zealand we are on the count down to SUMMER, so we have that to contend with too.  I'm linking up with my pals over at Focused on Fifth to bring you some super holiday writing ideas!
